Falconer Translation: Staff

John Falconer - President

John began studying Japanese in 1974. After studying at Waseda University, he earned a BA in LInguistics in 1978. He then lived in Japan for 12 years, working as a translator at Baring Securities and later as a freelance translator.

He returned to the US in 1990 and earned an MFA in Translation at the University of Iowa and as well as an MA in Russian. At that point he then became accredited in Japanese-English translation throught the American Translator's Association (ATA).

John is also a professional-level shakuhachi player, and records and performs with his wife Elizabeth, who is a master of the Japanese koto.

Elizabeth Falconer - Editor

Elizabeth is also fluent in Japanese and has professional editing experience in all fields, and holds a BA in Japanese Studies and an MA in Japanese Pedagogy and earned a Ph.D. in International Education from the University of Iowa. She has written extensively on Japanese music and musicians for major publications such as The Japan Times and Hogaku Journal.
